Causes of Short Menstrual Cycles

The length of a woman's menstrual cycle varies from person to person.Some have long cycles, and some are short. In addition, the time for menstruation also varies. How long is the menstrual cycle?

The length of a person's menstrual cycle is said to be normal if they have a cycle length of 28–35 days. If someone has a short cycle of 28 days, menstruation will often advance each month. Conversely, if they experience a long cycle, menstruation will continue to retreat every month.

In addition to the length of the menstrual cycle, the length of the menstrual cycle is usually around 3–7 days. If it's more or less than that, you have to watch out because problems can occur in the body or there are other special conditions. What causes menstruation to be short?

  1. PCOS

A woman's body still contains the hormone testosterone, although the level is not as high as that of a man. However, in the case of PCOS, the amount of testosterone possessed by women increases on its own.This increase causes women's reproductive functions to be disrupted, including frequently disrupted and fast menstruation.

Interrupted menstruation makes it difficult for ovulation to occur. As a result, the process of fertilization will be difficult, and pregnancy will be more difficult to obtain. In addition, a person with PCOS will also experience fatigue easily, have a thicker voice, experience mood swings easily, have lots of pimples, and have facial hair that will make him appear like a man.

One of the mistakes that women often make is not knowing that they are pregnant. When pregnancy is easy, the fetal sac collapses easily, and women experience miscarriage. If a miscarriage occurs when the fetus is very young, it may be short, and there is no heavy bleeding. This condition is often mistaken for menstruation.

Women who are breastfeeding will usually have light periods for a few months until the baby continues to grow. Generally, around 9–18 months, menstruation will be disrupted, and after that, women can experience normal menstruation from the beginning, just like before pregnancy.

If you are taking any type of hormonal birth control, be it injections, pills, or an IUD, your menstruation will be very light. Menstruation occurs lightly because the hormone content in contraceptives makes the lining of the uterus thinner. The impact of the blood that comes out during menstruation will be lighter.

Menstruation lasting only 1-2 days when using contraception is very reasonable.
